2 from Alto Pass charged with making meth

ALTO PASS, IL (KFVS) - Two men from Alto Pass face meth production charges.

According to the state's attorney, 65-year-old John A. Gleghorn and 34-year-old Billy J. Finney both of Bald Knob Road in rural Alto Pass were each charged with one count of unlawful participation in methamphetamine production and one count of possession of methamphetamine.

Gleghorn was also charged with on count of unlawful use of property and Finney was charged with one count of unlawful possession of stolen vehicle, according to Union County State's Attorney Tyler Edmonds.

The men are alleged to have made meth at at home on Bald Knob Road in February, March and April of 2012.

They both were being held on $1,000,000.

Participating in the investigation were the Union County Sheriff's Office, Murphysboro Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Office and ISP Methamphetamine Response Team.

(KFVS) - The Illinois Department of Public Health Acting Director shared with local Murphysboro officials his vision for the future of public health, eliminating health disparities and chronic disease, and providing greater access to healthcare in Illinois.

Acting Director LaMar Hasbrouck also mentioned Gov. Pat Quinn's $1-per-pack increase in the state cigarette tax as an effective way to close the $2.7 billion Medicaid deficit and improve health benefits statewide by curbing the number of smokers.

“Local health departments are the front lines of public health and are our strongest allies in the effort to address and eliminate health disparities, provide access to quality health care and improve the overall health of Illinois residents,” said Dr. Hasbrouck.

Presentation on Civil War project scheduled at Cape River Heritage Museum

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State University and Ellen Ryan, digital project manager at Kent Library, will talk on Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m. about a grant-funded project currently underway to identify and digitize original documents and photographs from the Civil War period.

The presentation will be at the Cape River Heritage Museum at 538 Independence Street. The project, "Confluence and Crossroads: The Civil War in the American Heartland" is a collaborative effort between Kent Library’s Special Collections, the Center for Regional History and the Department of History at Southeast Missouri State University, the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, and the Special Collections Research Center at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Authorities seeking info about truck-bicycle incident in rural Cobden

COBDEN, IL (KFVS) - Authorities are asking for information involving several vehicles and a person riding a bicycle in rural Cobden.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office and Union County State’s Attorney’s Office are asking the public to report any information about an incident involving a bicyclist and two vehicles that happened around 6:30 p.m. on April 27.

According to authorities, the incident happened at the intersection of Water Valley Road and Giant City Road in rural Cobden.

The vehicles are a late 1980s or early 1990s model red extended cab pick-up truck with a black toolbox and a white pick-up truck with a silver toolbox, according to Union County authorities.

Anyone with information regarding vehicles matching these descriptions which may have been seen in the area on the evening of April 27 are asked to call the Union County Sheriff’s Office at 618-833-5500.
