Health Dept. receives $500,000 loan for new building

A southern Illinois health department has received a loan of a half-million dollars in order to renovate a new facility.

Southern Seven Heath Department which serves southern Illinois has received a $500,000 Community Facility Direct Loan from the USDAs office of Rural Development.

The funds will be used to purchase and renovate a building in Anna to be utilized as a new health department building.

"These funds help us meet the challenges of providing quality healthcare services in southern Illinois," Costello said. "I will continue working to ensure that agencies in our area are considered for these resources."

2011 Union Co. Fair Car Show on Sunday

ANNA, IL (KFVS) - The 2011 Union County Fair Car Show will be Sunday, August 21.

Other events for Sunday include:

12 p.m. to 6 p.m. - 2011 Union County Fair Car Show
1:15 p.m. - Pet Parade registration, Junior show arena
2 p.m. - Pet Parade, Junior show arena
4 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Junior Exhibit Area open, exhibit hall
5 p.m. to 6 p.m. - Community Worship service, Grandstand
6 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Carnival open, $15 arm bands for adults and children
7:30 p.m. - Queen Pageant, General admission tickets: adults $8 and children $5

Union County officials brake ground on new $10.5 million dollar courthouse

Court officials call it a monumental moment for Union County.

They broke ground today on a new, $10.5 million courthouse.

The building will replace the current courthouse, which is more than 150-years-old.

Demolition of parts of the old courthouse is already underway. Construction will start next month and should take about 18-months to complete.

The money for the new courthouse is being paid by a one-percent sales tax passed last year.

Union Co. Fair events for Friday, Saturday

ANNA, IL (KFVS) - The Union County Fair events for Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 are available.

Events include:

Friday, August 19

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Open show registration at the Fair office (Please do not bring your Fair exhibit, only tags will be given out)
7 p.m. - Garden tractor pull in front of the grandstand. Free admission.

Saturday, August 20 (Children's Day, children admitted for free)

Ride discounts for arm bands will be given from 6 p.m. until close for children
8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. - Entries taken for the junior horse show in the office
9 a.m. - Junior horse show, horse arena, junior rules will be enforced
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Junior entry registration (Bring your exhibit item with you)
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Open show registration at the Fair office. Only tags will be given.

Millions of dollars on the way to help improve Interstate 57

Nearly four million dollars will be used for maintenance work on Interstate 57.

According to U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello, the Illinois Department of Transportation has received an Interstate Maintenance grant for $3,750,000 from the Federal Highway Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The money will be used to work on Interstate 57 between the Union-Pulaski County line. Some of the money will also be used to improve Illinois 146.
