Union County plans to consolidate communications resources

JONESBORO, IL (KFVS) - On Friday, May 24, the Union County Board of Commissioners announced an initiative to find ways to pool its technology resources into a single Communications Department.

By combining the county’s technology spending wherever possible, the Board believes that resources will be better utilized and that future spending will be more focused. To oversee this process, local consultant Rollie Hawk was appointed as the County’s Chief Information Officer.

“Even though on paper they are creating a new department and giving me a title, it’s really a reorganization more than anything else,” Hawk said. “This is money that’s already being spent by the County and work that’s already being done. But by consolidating those resources, we can better use them and really focus on providing better services to the public.”

(KFVS) - The Parade of Quilts will be at the Southern Illinois Art and Artisans Center now through July 14.

Each year the Artisans Center offers a display of unique art quilts created by members of the Illinois Artisans Program. These quilts encompass traditional and modern designs and offer a lively look into the art of contemporary quilt making.

The Center is located at 14967 Gun Creek Trail in Whittington.

Boil water order for Shawnee Valley customers in Ware canceled

WARE, IL (KFVS)- Shawnee Valley Water District has canceled a boil water order for customers between Clear Creek Levee and the railroad tracks in Ware, Illinois.

Officials say the water main was fixed.

Dawg Days of Summer Super Shelter Spectacular! to benefit local animal shelters

ALTO PASS, IL (KFVS) - Alto Vineyards, Shawnee Shuttle, the Neighborhood Co-op and Thomas Publishing have teamed up to bring you Dawg Days of Summer Super Shelter Spectacular! coming Sunday, June 30 to Alto Vineyards.

This exciting inaugural fundraising event will benefit eight local animal rescue organizations including Cache Creek Animal Rescue, Humane Society of Southern Illinois, Marion Animal Shelter, Marion Regional Humane Society, P.A.W.S, Perry County Humane Society, Union County Animal Control and Wright-Way Rescue.

“Right now a lot of people don't even know we exist, especially our low-cost spay and neuter clinic," said Kendra Linder, manager of Cache Creek Animal Rescue. "So, it blows my mind that we're trying to provide this great, low-cost service and no one knows about us."

IDPH investigating 2 more steroid injection complication cases

(KFVS) - The Illinois Department of Public Health is investigating two additional reports of adverse events among patients in Illinois who received injections of the steroid methylprednisolone acetate produced by Main Street Family Pharmacy, LLC in Newbern, Tenn.

All seven Illinois cases received injections at the Logan Primary Care clinic in downstate Herrin, located in Williamson County.

Initially five Illinois patients were reported to have developed abscesses after receiving injections of methylprednisolone acetate, an anti-inflammatory steroid used to treat a range of conditions including asthma and allergic reactions. The two additional cases were confirmed this week following public reports of a multistate outbreak involving more than 20 patients in Florida (13), North Carolina (2) and Illinois (7) who received injections of MPA from a shipment that originated from Main Street Family Pharmacy.
