Southern Ill. Food Packing Event 2013 will be Feb. 2 | Community Spirit

(KFVS) - The 1st Southern Illinois Food Packing Event 2013 will be Saturday, February 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will be at the SIUC Newman Center at 715 South Washington Street in Carbondale. Organizers are hoping to unite churches and businesses in the Southern Illinois area to package a minimum of 43,000 meals for orphans in third world countries.

They say anyone can be a participant at this event: any age, anyone who is willing to help scoop rice, soy, dried vegetables and seal them in a box.

To register, you can go to www.foodpackingevent.com, click on the "Sign Up" at the top right corner, fill in required information (click on Carbondale, Ill. for: Choose the event). It costs $54 a participant. Organizers say you can pay by the secure form of Paypal online or have all checks made out to Food for Orphans by Jan. 25.
