Cobden man sentenced to 8 years for burglary

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A Cobden man was sentenced to eight years behind bars for burglary.

Charles F. Yates, 44, of 5875 Water Valley Road in rural Cobden was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of burglary, a Class 2 Felony. 

Yates took several metal items from a machine shed on Water Valley road in March 2013., according to Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds.

He was arrested following an investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Elco man sentenced to 18 years for home invasion

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced Thursday that an Elco man was sentenced to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Jeremy Westmoreland, 24, was sentenced on one count of home invasion.

According to Edmonds, in April 2012 Westmoreland, acting with another individual, entered a home in rural Union County while armed with a knife. He says Westmoreland threatened the property owner and took a number of items from the home.

Westmoreland was arrested in July 2012 following an investigation by the Union County Sheriff's Office.

Murphysboro man sentenced to 5 years for aggravated DUI

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced Tuesday, March 26 that Angel L. Guajardo from Murphysboro has been sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Guajardo, 34, was sentenced after a guilty plea on one count of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested on Feb. 18 after a traffic stop by the Anna Police Department.

Ware man gets 9 years behind bars for arson

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A Ware man has been sentenced to serve 9 years behind bars in connection to several arson incidents in 2012.

According to Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds, Corey E. Iman, 19, of Ware, Illinois was sentenced to 9 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in connection to the fires that happened in January and March 2012.

Iman pleaded guilty to two counts of felony residential arson. He was arrested in March 2012 following an investigating by ISP and the Union County Sheriff's Office.

State's Attorney reminds public about tax refund fraud

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds is alerting the public about what he says is identity theft and tax refund fraud associated with April's tax filing deadline.

According to Edmonds, tax refund fraud commonly occurs when stolen identity information is used to file a tax return in the victim's name and the thief then gets the refund that would be due to the victim.

Tax refund fraud has previously been reported in Union County and the State's Attorney's Office urges the public to protect identifying documents and information as the tax deadline approaches.

Members of the public with questions or reporting suspicious activity may call the Union County State's Attorney's Office at 618-833-7216 or the IRS Protection Specialized Unit, toll-free at 1-800-908-4490.

Illinois Department of Corrections sentences four people

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that the following people were sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections:

Derek B. Reigert, 22,  of Delta, Missouri has been sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of Attempted Theft, a Class 4 Felony.  Reigert was arrested in November 2012 by Union County Sheriff’s Deputies after he attempted to remove copper wire from an agriculture irrigation system located near Wolf Lake, Illinois. 

Ebony A. Bradley, 29,  of Carbondale, Illinois has been sentenced to eighteen months in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of Petition to Revoke Probation for the original offense of Retail Theft, a Class 4 Felony.  The sentence will run consecutively with the sentenced imposed in Williamson County, Illinois.

5 people sentenced to prison in Union County

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -  Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced that the following individuals have been sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections:

Ricky Westbrook (DOB 08/21/1961) of Tamms, Illinois has been sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of retail theft, a Class 3 Felony. 

Michael E. Pickles (DOB 02/28/1974) of Anna, Illinois has been sentenced to one year in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of petition to revoke probation for the original offense of domestic battery, a Class 4 Felony and two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of identity theft, a Class 3 Felony.  The sentences will run consecutively.
