5 people sentenced to prison in Union County

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -  Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced that the following individuals have been sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections:

Ricky Westbrook (DOB 08/21/1961) of Tamms, Illinois has been sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of retail theft, a Class 3 Felony. 

Michael E. Pickles (DOB 02/28/1974) of Anna, Illinois has been sentenced to one year in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of petition to revoke probation for the original offense of domestic battery, a Class 4 Felony and two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of identity theft, a Class 3 Felony.  The sentences will run consecutively.

Anna man charged with possession of child porn

ANNA, IL (KFVS) - Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced Tuesday, January 29 that an Anna man has been charged with child porn possession.

Benson T. Poirier, 33 from rural Anna, was charged with two counts of aggravated child pornography, one count of being a Class X Felony and one count being a Class 2 Felony; and five counts of child pornography, all Class 3 Felonies.

Poirier is alleged to have had pornagraphic computer images of children under the age of 13 and children under the age of 18. The offenses took place at his home in August 2012.

According to Edmonds, Poirier was arrested Tuesday after an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Illinois State Police. Poirier is currently being held at the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro on $300,000 bond. A date for First Appearance has not yet been set.

Doniphan man sentenced to 7 years on drug charges after Union Co. arrest

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced Tuesday, January 29 that a Doniphan man has been sentenced to seven years on drug charges.

William D. Ray, 37, has been sentenced to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a Class 1 Felony. Ray was also sentenced to a concurrent term of six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of obstructing justice, a Class 4 Felony.

According to Edmonds, Ray was arrested in November 2012 following a traffic stop by Union County Sheriff’s Deputies on a vehicle in which Ray was a passenger.

Ray was found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and was taken into custody after he fled on foot into nearby woods.

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced Wednesday, January 23 that the following individuals have been sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Johnny A. Schneider, 34, of Dongola, Ill. was sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of driving while license revoked, a Class 4 Felony.

Matthew J. Kren, 33, formerly of Carbondale, Ill. was sentenced to a year and six months in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of unlawful possession with intent to deliver cannabis, a Class 4 Felony.

Amy K. East, 39, formerly of Vienna, Ill. has been sentenced to one year in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of aggravated driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a Class 4 Felony; and one count of retail theft, a Class 4 Felony.

Rural Anna man sentenced to 6 years on meth charge

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -  Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced Wednesday that Jason B. Stanton, 42 and formerly from rural Anna, has been sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of Unlawful Participation in Methamphetamine Production, a Class 1 Felony. 

Stanton was arrested on Sept. 26, 2012 as a search warrant was executed by the Illinois State Police.

Stolen vehicle involved in crash

Stolen vehicle involved in crash

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - Jackson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a single vehicle crash involving a stolen vehicle near Granghall Rd. in Murphysboro, Ill. on Sunday, Jan. 6.

Deputies discovered the crashed vehicle had been reported stolen by the Union County Sheriff's Office. 

The driver was identified as Joshua R. Poole of Jonesboro.

Poole was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He was then taken into custody of sheriff deputies on the charge of possession of stolen property.

Carbondale man sentenced to 8 years for burglary

Carbondale man sentenced to 8 years for burglary

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A Carbondale man was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for residential burglary.

Travis W. Braden, 26, of Carbondale was sentenced to eight years for one count of residential burglary.

Braden took several items from a home on Wing Hill Road in rural Union County in November 2011.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case with assistance from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
