Road in Shawnee National Forest to close for snakes

HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) - LaRue Road in the Shawnee National Forest will be closed until May for migrating snakes and amphibians.

Forest Rangers are shutting the road, also known as Snake Road, down to protect the snake and amphibians as they move from their winter hibernation spots to their summer homes in nearby swamps.

Some of the species are either threatened or endangered and closing the road will ensure their safety.
