COWL introduces "Go Red for Women" walking challenge

COWL introduces "Go Red for Women" walking challenge

(KFVS) - The Illinois Department of Public Health, Conference of Women Legislators and the American Heart Association team up in February for "Go Red for Women."

According to the COWL, each legislator that signs up for the challenge will receive a pedometer donated by the AHA. Each day between March 5 and April 29, participating legislators will record the number of steps they take each day, and report the total number of steps to IDPH each week.

“Today we are challenging the women of COWL to help us spread awareness of the fight against heart disease by taking personal action to prevent it,” said Mark E. Peysakhovich, senior director of Governmental Relations with the American Heart Association. “We challenge each participant to track their steps over the next several weeks of the legislative session with the pedometer. Pfizer Inc. will donate $1 for every mile walked, up to $5,000, to go toward the COWL scholarship fund.”

Open Bass Tournament to benefit Hospice of Southern Illinois

MARION, IL (KFVS) - Bass fishing enthusiasts are encouraged to enter the Little Egypt Open Bass Tournament this spring to help raise money for the Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Organized by the Little Egypt Bass Club, this is the 43rd year for the tournament and the 10th year that proceeds have gone to the hospice.

This year's tournament will be March 31 and April 1 at Devil's Kitchen Lake. Organizers say two-person teams are forming now. The entry fee is $150 and entry forms are due to the Little Egypt Bass Club by March 30.

For over 30 years, the Hospice of Southern Illinois has provided care to over an estimated 28,000 patients and their families in the southern 27 counties, and because of the support of the community, and friends like Little Egypt Bass Club, they are able to continue the tradition of never billing a patient or their family.
