Union Co. government enters into cost saving energy agreement

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Union County’s government offices will begin seeing some cost savings on their electrical bills very soon.

At its regular board meeting on Friday, June 14, the board of commissioners signed off on a plan that would lock in all County facilities with an electrical rate of 4.625 cents per kilowatt hour for a twenty-four-month period.

“It should end up saving the County around $5000 annually,” said Treasurer Darren Bailey. “If rates go up, we’re shielded from that. If rates go down, we’re free to renegotiate. So either way, Union County ends up saving compared to what we would otherwise be paying.”

Union County plans to consolidate communications resources

Union County plans to consolidate communications resources

JONESBORO, IL (KFVS) - On Friday, May 24, the Union County Board of Commissioners announced an initiative to find ways to pool its technology resources into a single Communications Department.

By combining the county’s technology spending wherever possible, the Board believes that resources will be better utilized and that future spending will be more focused. To oversee this process, local consultant Rollie Hawk was appointed as the County’s Chief Information Officer.

“Even though on paper they are creating a new department and giving me a title, it’s really a reorganization more than anything else,” Hawk said. “This is money that’s already being spent by the County and work that’s already being done. But by consolidating those resources, we can better use them and really focus on providing better services to the public.”
