UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Union County Sheriff and State's Attorney are reminding the public to have a safe Independence Day.
Sheriff David E. Livesay and State Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds say the Union County Sheriff's Department, Illinois State Police and municipal police departments will be patrolling for drunk drivers. They remind everyone who will be drinking to choose a designated driver.
First time DUI offenders are subject to thousands of dollars in fines and court costs, jail time and loss of driver's license for six months. Repeat offenders can subject to up to $25,000 in fines, a felony conviction and prison time.
