JONESBORO, IL (KFVS)- A Jonesboro man will spend nearly 50 years behind bars for sexual assault and other sex related charges.
According to the state's attorney's office, Gregory F. McCord, 41, formerly of Jonesboro has been sentenced to 48 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for sexually abusing and taking lewd photographs of a juvenile in 2006 and 2007.
In July of 2010 a Union County jury found McCord guilty of one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, four counts of criminal sexual assault, one count of child pornography, and eight counts of unlawful possession of weapons by felon.
Presiding Judge Mark Boie handed down the sentence Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.
McCord was arrested in December 2007 as the Jonesboro Police Department and Illinois State Police executed a search warrant at his home.
The case was prosecuted by the Illinois Attorney General's Office with assistance from the Union County State's Attorney's Office.
