Union County Treasurer among those named to Edgar Fellows for 2013 | News
JONESBORO, IL (KFVS) — Union County Treasurer Darren M. Bailey has been named to the list of Edgar Fellows for the year 2013.
The Edgar Fellows is in the second year of its initiative to foster cooperation across regional, political and ethnic lines to address challenges the state faces in the years and decades ahead.
Bailey is among 41 selected from a pool of 160 nominees with roles at all levels of government, business and community and from all corners of the state.
Bailey says he is both honored and humbled by this opportunity.
“When you take a look at the rosters from this program—senators and representatives and business leaders included—it’s just wonderful, unbelievable that a relative young person such as myself, from Union County, would be included,” said Bailey in a news release. “I believe Matt Baughman and I are the only two representatives from southern Illinois in either class, and I know we’re both committed to representing our region well, bringing back some strong relationships, and continuing to lead southern Illinois to its prosperous future.”
Bailey looks forward to the gathering off all the Edgar Fellows which will take place in Urbana-Champaign from August 4 through August 7 where they will be hosted by former governor Jim Edgar and the Institute of Government and Public Affairs.
“As we all continue to suffer the throes of government dysfunction in Illinois, the name Jim Edgar reminds us of happier times of great leadership and collaboration. He has been an inspiration to me, and I believe fully in his endeavor to bring together decision makers from diverse backgrounds across this state, and to cultivate a more effective and responsive, if not more unified Illinois.”
