Illinois tourism office creates viral video of Lincoln preparing for the Oscars

(KFVS) - Illinois is living up to its "Land of Lincoln" nickname thanks to the success of Steven Spielberg's blockbuster film "Lincoln."

The state's tourism office is celebrating all things Lincoln in February, including a video of the 16th president getting ready for the 85th Academy Awards.

Since it's release, the video has gone viral, appearing all over the internet.

Community photo: Warmer weather brings out snake

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Viewer Rhonda Millis sent us this picture of a snake.

Millis says her husband came home Thursday to find it by their front door. She says it was already dead.

She says they live between Anna and Cobden, Ill. and she has received several Facebook replies to it. The weather is crazy and she says seeing a snake in February is just as crazy.

"Vulture party" near Cobden

COBDEN, IL (KFVS) - A viewer sent us these pictures of what they call black vultures that have been roosting in trees by their house just east of Cobden.

The viewer says they don't know if this is typical but it is interesting to watch the 100 or more birds and it is enough to stop traffic.

Coroner: Man found burned to death in BBQ fire pit

JONESBORO, IL (KFVS) - The Union County Coroner says a man found dead in a BBQ style fire pit just west of Jonesboro died in a freak accident Sunday night.

Jeffrey Emrick, 58, of Jonesboro was found by a neighbor in a BBQ style fire pit.

Union County Sheriff's deputies responded to 100 State Pond Road outside of Jonesboro at 11:30 p.m.

Union County Coroner Darrell Rendleman says Emrick was burned to death.

No foul play is suspected, but the Union County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police, Illinois State Fire Marshall, Union County Coroner's Ofiice and Union County State's Attorney Office are investigating.
